1. Guest Speaker: Mr. Colin Warner, representing AFS - discussing his experiences as an exchange student in Argentina, and the opportunities and learning experiences from being an exchange student and/or hosting one.

2. Prueba 1B-5:Practice "quiz" - Word Order of Adjectives. - Similar to last night's homework on page 28 of the workbook, only YOU have to figure out what order to rewrite the words.

3. Homework correction and review: Workbook pages 25, 26 and 28 - Practicing me gusta + actions; Soy + adjectives; endings of adjectives for person described; Forms of the verb SER; Word order of sentences = especially of nouns and descriptive adjectives.


4. Partner vocabulary practice: Interactive crossword
. Same crossword, but one partner has the horizontal clues and the other partner has the vertical ones.

Tarea: STUDY for tomorrow's vocabulary test: Be able to QUICKLY and CORRECTLY write the word in SPANISH from its English meaning.

1. Warm-up/Review: Subject pronouns and the form of the verb Ser. Students copied the prompts, and then wrote the Spanish equivalents. Students then shared their answers on the white board to correct their work.

2. Lesson 1A Exam Review - finally all make-ups have been completed, so we went over the vocabulary and comprehensive tests taken before Spring Break. I also shared sone techniques for test-taking.

3. Correction of Workbook pages 24 & 27 - due the Friday before Spring Break - reviewing vocabulary and basic sentence structure.

4. Partner Mini White Board Writing - Last night's homework review: 10 bilingual sentences putting it all together - subject pronouns + SER + adjectives. Partners took turns providing the class with one of the English versions of their sentences, and then everyone wrote it out in Spanish. Partners took turns writing and editing.

1. Vocabulary practice: El crucigrama - Great practice for our vocabulary test tomorrow!

2. Comparisons - Corrected the homework, and added on more practice with superlatives (Ex. E, #3) AND the Absolute Superlative - see the back page of the packet. Remember - our lesson test will ONLY include the comparisons of equality: Tan...como; Tanto/a...como; Tantos/as...como.

3. How long? We reviewed this structure we practiced yesterday: "Hace + amount of time expression + que + verb in the form for the person", and then did a partner oral activity practicing it.

4. El proyecto para el viernes: There are THREE handouts: Blue project description, White project template, white 1/2 sheet scoring guide. I went over the criteria for the project with the students - this is due on Friday.

New seating chart today!

1. Reviewed the Singular Subject Pronouns (Yo=I; You=tú & Ud.; She = ella; He = él), and then added the PLURALS: (We = Nosotros/as; You - plural = Vosotros/as & Uds.; They = ellos/ellas).

2. Reviewed the verb SER = To be and then added the plural forms to go with the plural subject pronouns in #1:
(yo) soy; (tú) eres; (Ud., él or ella) es; (nosotros/as) somos; (vosotros/as) sois; (usedes, ellos/as) son.

3. New vocabulary handout: Vocabulario Capítulo 1B - suplemental. Lots more descriptive adjectives.

4. Oraciones locas - working with a partner students traded off working with 20 different envelopes, each containing words that make up a sentence in Spanish using the subjects of verbs (names or subject pronouns), a form of SER, and descriptive pronouns. Students organized the papers to form a sentence, each one writing down the sentence and then translating it to English. We reviewed all together the correct word order and meanings. The students worked hard on this fun activity - !Buen trabajo! !Uds. son estudiantes muy inteligentes!

5. We just got started on the movie, Jorge, el curioso.

1. Viernes song - Es el día mejor! and then partner interviews about school and courses while I checked-in homework. Next we debriefed the interviews by my asking the same questions of a variety of the members of the class.

2. Homework corrections, reviewing making comparisons of equality (see your packet AND TWO verbs for "To know": Saber (facts & how to do...); Conocer (acquainted with; know personally).

3. 1A TESTS review - FINALLY all make-ups completed!

4. Started working on final group of flashcards for 1B - #s 29-62 - if done in class then no homework over the break.

5. Los Increíbles - we watched about 20 minutes more of this en español - con palomitas de maíz.

I was out giving some of the IB Spanish candidates their oral interviews - internal assessment. This is what the substitute Mrs. Crary did with the classes:

1. Write out answers to the questions on the blue handout (class set) based on vocabulary and grammar from pages 42 & 43. Mrs. Crary stamped Tuesday night's homework while students wrote. (2 fan folds of vocabulary, #s1-14, AND Flashcards #s1-24 )

2. Vocabulary review, working with your 7:00AM partner appointment: flash card review AND Communicative Activity 1B-1.

3. Comparisons - Text page 53, Gram Activa and New Packet - Comparison of Adjectives. Worked through the packet THROUGH the "SUMMARY".

4. 10 minutos - Los Increíbles.

1. 1B WAVA packet - Activities 1-4 = Recycling the new vocabulary with the Video Historia we read yesterday on pages 52-53 AND saw on the DVD.

2. Los adjectivos - APUNTES (notes) AND page 55 in the textbook - we practiced using different endings on the adjectives so they matched the noun described - Most have four forms: Singular/Masculine; Singular/Feminine; Plural/Masculine; and Plural/Feminine.

3. Adjective Practice: Activity 7, page 55 AND Activity 8, page 56: Oral practice with a partner and then with the whole class.

4. APUNTES (Notes) -
(A) Review of Singular Subject Pronouns: Yo (I), tú (you/familiar), Ud. (you/formal), él (he), ella (she)

1. Warm-up: Two uses of Ir (to go to a place; to be going to do something) AND ESTAR - to be in/at a place. Get notes from your study buddy.

2. Homework review/corrections
- Workbook pages 16 & 17 - practicing vocabulary 1B - A ver si recuerdas AND the sentences at the bottom of the in-class practice handout.

3. Workshop: How to Study for Success in Spanish - 2 handouts and an easy way to learn vocabulary quickly and accurately. We worked with the NEW HANDOUT: Vocabulary 1B.

Tarea:
1. Complete the "vocabulary fan" we began in class for vocabulary items #1-7 (las actividades extracurriculares - la fotografía). 8 repeats of the SPANISH - 16 columns of alternating Spanish with English for the same 7 items.
2. Make a NEW fan, for vocabulary items # 8 - 14 (el fotógrafo - la práctica)
3. FLASH CARDS for items 1-24: Las actividades extracurriculares - la banda. As ALWAYS - these are labled with YOUR NAME; are NUMBERED, CUT-OUT, and BUNDLED BEFORE coming to class to receive credit for being done on time.

(A) Vocabulary Quiz tomorrow - a selection from the 1A vocabulary: Be ready to ACCURATELY SPELL the SPANISH word from the ENGLISH equivalent.

4. We talked about some typical percussion instruments to Latino music and I shared mine: el güiro, los claves, las maracas, los castañuelos - and I showed pictures of others. See page 34.

5. Page 35: We read about different dance styles around the Spanish-speaking world, and listened to music for these dances = KNOW this information for the test.

6. Workbook page 17 (1-7) -Homework correction:Infinitives ending with -Ar, -Er, -Ir: we also practiced their meanings.

Tarea:
1. Handout: Communicative Activity 1A-2 - Prepare this Battleship-style game to be ready to play for class tomorrow.

1. Practicing Reading Strategies - using contextual cues, title, and pictures to help understand what you are reading in Spanish.

. We previewed this reading, and anticipated what the people were going to say based on the pictures and captions. Then we watched the Video/DVD twice - once straight through and then a second time pausing for comprehension checks. True/False comprehension questions on Activity 3, pp. 26-27

3. WAVA Packet - NEW! We did the first 4 activities based on the Video/DVD - All of the video work reinforced the Me/te gusta phrases we worked on yesterday in class.

1. Warm-up:Activity 4, page 22: Writing, and then speaking about what students HAVE TO DO in various courses. Tener + que + infinitive = To HAVE to...

2. Page 31: Affirmative and Negative words (adjectives and adverbs) - Read the Recuerdas? box, and the grammar explanation. Next we watched the Gram Active DVD(goofy grammar)and did the practice "quiz" aloud. Finally, we wrote out ACT. 19, on page 31 together.

3. STEM-CHANGING VERBS! We corrected the homework (1A-5, pg 11 in workbook), and took notes over what to pay close attention to when working with these verb. Next we practiced more of these verbs as we played the Lotería 1A stem-changers game.

4. I introduced/explained the homework and reminded the students of the upcoming quizzes and tests.

ANUNCIO! - I've decided to give everyone an EXTRA DAY on all of the quizzes and tests . So, NEW PLAN:
(1) Stem-changing verbs on MONDAY -Know the Meanings and the forms of the verbs on your LOTERIA game and be able to take the English(She eats lunch) and convert it to the Spanish(Ella almuerza).
(2) Vocabulary - on TUESDAY: Spelling and meanings from a selection of the vocabulary list.
(3) Lesson EXAM - ALL vocabulary and grammar from the lesson - Affirmative and Negative words as well as stem-changers. Also the Fondo Culturales readings.

Tarea:
1. Pink verb grid - STEM-CHANGERS = Fill it all out. Use your LOTERIA 1A (last night's homework) as a guide.
2. White verb handout: Translate the English verb forms to their Spanish equivalent. This is a GREAT practice for our quiz!

1. Introduced vocabulary for our new lesson - 1A. We practiced expressing lots of activities - Pictures on an overhead, picture flashcards on the white board, and textbook pages 26 & 27 - CD listening activities as well as Act. 1 & 2.

2. We practiced talking about what we like to do, don't like to do, and asking others about their preferences - page 30, Activities 5, 6 & 7.

3. Started watching the GRAM ACTIVA DVD (Funny but "Goofy" grammar explanations) about the dictionary form of the verb - the infinitive.

4. We got our WORKBOOKS today - Write YOUR NAME on the inside cover with "Thurber" in parenthesis underneath it. This will really help your book be returned to you if you leave it somewhere at school.

5. Tarea:
