1. Introduced / Reviewed - Indirect Object Pronouns.  I gave examples with the verb GUSTAR, partners read the "Grammar" box in the text - see page 199, and we watched the Gram Activa with the QUIZ.  Then we did the Actividad 22, pg. 199.

2. Actividad 6, pg. 190 = Dictado.  We listened as a boy described the pet dog he had as a child.  Students wrote down the sentences he said and then we compared those with the script.  (El imperfecto y el vocabulario en contexto)

3. Pruebita - Recognition quiz of the TIME EXPRESSIONS FOR THE IMPERFECTO.  Took the quiz, and then corrected it in class.

4. LOTERIA - We practiced the forms of the IMPERFECTO playing this bingo-like game.

5. PLANES - We organized who will bring what for our food day on Friday.

1. Actividad 3 - page 189: comprehension questions from READING on page 188-189.

2. Introduced the "other past tense", El IMPERFECTO.  
See pages 194 & 196 + WHITE HANDOUT and GREEN PACKET. 
We watched the GRAM  ACTIVA and did the QUIZ.  Wrote down the meanings for the TIME EXPRESSION - IMPERFECTO INDICATORS on the WHITE HANDOUT. 
Worked in the packet - taking notes on the STUDY POINTS = NUMBERED ITEMS and COMPLETED PRACTICE A.

3. Repaso - IRREGULARES del PRETERITO: Returned to the WHITE VERB GRID we started in 3A and filled-in the rest of the GROUPED IRREGULARS.  NEW PINK PACKET - IRREGULAR PRETERITES. We took notes and worked through the STUDY POINTS.

4. I collected the SIGNED PROGRESS REPORTS and GOALS, checked off WB 73 for those who did it.  I left it off of Friday's blog, so we'll roll it over to tomorrow. 
Students practiced the preterite playing, 2 Verdades y 1 mentira re: una fiesta que asisitieron.

   B. Finished the conjugation exercise - just doing the YO forms.

Started our new lesson - 4A: Remembering our childhood.
1. A la primera vista - pp. 186-187: Listening, reading,  repeating and demonstrating comprehension of the new vocabulary (Act. 1 & 3).

2. Homework corrections - WB71 & 72 = re: text pages 182 & 813 = Celebrations, Family members, Sthe special endings - ito & -ísimo

3. Watched the Video Historia, pp. 188-189, and then read it aloud with a partner.  Period 2 wrote out Act. 3

4. We talked a little more about mascotas- using the new bulletin board of pet pictures.

5. Cultural Presentation: Students Sydney and Michelle came to period 1 to talk about their experiences as exchange students in Costa Rica last summer.  They couldn't come to period 2, so they watched more of the trip to Barcelona DVD.

Tarea:
1. Progress Reports = Write a SMART goal and then have your parent sign.  Specific Measureable Achievable Realistic for you and Time-bound (time limit).
2. 2 Verdades y 1 Mentira = We'll play "Two Truths and a Lie" using your sentences written in the PRETERITE about a party you went to.
3. Finish your Flash Cards for 4A = Remember to add #38 = Las mascotas/the pets

4. Homework Review: Workbook page 43 & Activity 26, pg. 129.  Then we added WB42 - more vocabulary practice.

5. Quick review of the subjunctive = wrote in the text reference pages on to the related information in our packets.  Page 132 = Regular forms; Pg. 135 = Irregulars; Pg. 137 = Stem-changers.  Remember NOSOSTROS/AS & VOSOTROS/AS have the "double change" for -IR Verbs.

5. ORAL - El pretérito.  Students took turns asking and answering the questions from lessons 2B (regular preterites) and 3A (some of the irregular preterites).  They did GREAT! and we'll do a couple more rounds tomorrow as a warm-up before the written exam.

1. Lectura - Un anuncio comercial de la revista Prevención en español (una hoja extra = handout).  Commands and vocabulary in context.

2. Oral de pareja - Communicative Activity 3-2: asking for and giving health advice.

3. Repaso de las tareas: Workbook 41 = Ud/Uds. commands with object pronouns. & WAVA 9 - Recetas para los enfermos.

4. Juego de oraciones - Still working with today's partner, began the sentence game.  Each envelop has 5 sentences to write in Spanish.  We'll need a little time before tomorrow's test to finish up all 25 sentences.

Tarea:
1. ESTUDIA!  Vocabulary 3A "spelling test" tomorrow AND Los mandatos - Affirmative & Negative Informal and Formal Commands.

2. Dos hojas mexicanas: (A) Frutas de una pepita versus Frutas con muchas pepitas.  Fill this out in Spanish listing names of fruit in the appropriate category. - Don't worry about the backside.  (B) Los Alimentos - de dónde proviene cada alimento?  Draw lines connecting the food and its source.  Be able to talk about the foods tomorrow.  Frutas y verduras; Vitaminas y Minerales (BACKSIDE) - fill in the crucigrama with the words at the bottom of the page.  Be sure you know the names of these foods.
3. Comiquita - Four panel comic strip handout: Fill in the speech bubbles (burbujas) including examples of commands with object pronouns.  You may make this one continuous story or four separate ones.

2. Test REVIEWS - all of the make-ups are finally complete from our last lesson test (2B), so I shared their results with the students.


3. Direct Object Pronouns - Corrected Homework -WB55 & Blue Packet (#1) - Summary exercise.

3. Shared pictures and facts from the book, Hungry Planet - How the World Eats (Menzel & D'Aluisio, 10 Speed Press, 2005).  I shared photos of families, from around the Spanish-speaking world, with a typical week's worth of food.  We compared how much it cost, how much of it was whole foods versus process foods.

4. Los mandatos:
A. Workbook/homework corrections: WB39 & 40 - Informal affirmative & negative forms.
B. Práctica: 10 infinitives in affirmative & negative Tú commands; Then converted them to FORMAL = Ud./ Uds. commands.
C. Referred back to yesterday's WHITE packet, Formal Commands.

5. Regalitos para mamá - We made gift coupon books for our mom's.

ANUNCIO: 3A Test on Wednesday, May 16th: Vocabulario 3A (pp. 114, 115, 116) & Mandatos - Informales y Formales.

1. Complete your Encuesta from yesterday, if you haven't yet done so - I stamped for the YO answers today.

3. Repaso - Los mandatos informales:  Repaso - TAREA: Ex. B & C. and then we FINISHED the INFORMAL COMMANDS packet together.
4. INTRO - LOS MANDATOS FORMALES - Ud/Uds. 
Read text page 123 with a partner and then got a NEW WHITE PACKET.
Went over the study points and did PRACTICE A and a little beyond.

5. REPASO - Workbook pg. 38 - vocabulario.

6. La comida = Shared photos of common fast food & how much sugar is in each.
Started our ENCUESTA (SURVEY).  We'll finish the interviews tomorrow.

Tarea:
1. WB 39 & 40: Affirmative and Negative tú commands (Informal)

Practicas - El vocabulario:
 Picture flashcards for vocabulary 3A - students identified and labeled the pictures.  In Hora 2nda we also played a little of "Qué falta?" - identifying which picture was removed from the set under the document camera.

El pretérito - los irregulares:
1. Practiced Ir & Ser - Workbook page 56 - reviewed this HOMEWORK.
and then practiced CONJUGATING - Ir/Ser using flashcards & the "conjugation ball toss game".
2. Reviewed the other irregulars included in our HOMEWORK FLASHCARDS.
2. Added "Grouped Irregular Endings"


Introduced DIRECT OBJECTS AND THEIR PRONOUNS - See TEXT page 138.
1. I showed/used examples and students observed what they were and how to use their pronouns.
2. Students read the text's explanation to each other.
3. We watched the Gram Activa - "Goofy Grammar" video
4. Started a NEW PACKET (AZUL). = Chapter 24 - Included the concept of the "A personal".

Tarea:
1. Finish your VERB GRID for the IRREGULAR PRETERITES for CAPITULA 3A (Ser, Ir, Tener, Estar, Poder and Hacer).

1. Video historia - pp. 132-133: Watched & listened, then read aloud with a partner, then wrote out Act. 3.  We shared our answers aloud with the class.

2. Repaso / Tareas:
(A) Reviewed vocabulary 3A list - questions?
(B) Wb 51 - Read aloud, pointed out clues for the answers.

3. El pretérito - los irregulares:
(A) Page 140 = Ser & Ir.  Practiced forms and wrote out Actividad 15.
(B) Page 142 = Hacer, Tener, Estar,Poder - forms given in box at top of the page.
(C) Compared these verbs to our verb grid, begun yesterday in class.
(D) FLASHCARDS - I demonstrated how to cut out the NEW set of cards for the IRREGULARS -
NOTE: SER/IR & DAR are cut apart in separate cards. The grouped irregulars, -IR Stem-changers and "I-Sandwich" cards are folded.

4. La casa - We continued, and finished, our partner orals and then turned in BOTH our house drawings and our orals handout.

2. Repaso del vocabulario - Double check your list against the one on page 150 = be sure you have everything!  Additional ones: La síntoma, la medicina, el músculo, el oído, el pulmón, los pulmones, la pulmonía
3. Oral de pareja - El juego del gato: Communication Activity 3-1 = Vocabulary Tic-Tac-Toe.
4. LOS MANDATOS / Commands: Introduced the concept (See YELLOW packet).  Then we focused on Affirmative Informal Commands - see page 121 AND PINK PACKET.  Actividad 11, pg. 121 and the pink packet.
5. Introduced tracking your daily eating & exercise habits - HANDOUT: Mi rutina diaria.  Use the food reference lists on your vocabulary to help you track IN SPANISH today and tomorrow.

Introduced our NEW LESSON: Capítulo 3A
1. A la primera vista - pages 130-131: Listened and then repeated the NEW VOCABULARY.
2. Listening Comprehension Activities 1 & 2, pages 130-131.
3. NEW 3A Vocabulary List

El pretérito - reviewed regular and began IRREGULARS:
1.Text page 140 - Ser & Ir in the Preterite
2. Referred to our WHITE - EL PRETERITO packet - all pages: Ser/IR; Dar; Ver; "Grouped Irregulars" - UV/U/I/J; -IR Verb stem-changers; Meaning-changers.
3. New two-sided PINKhandout :
(A) Review of the Present Tense and REGULAR  Preterite.
(B) Fill-in overview of  all irregularities in the preterite.
4. Began a NEW VERB GRID of the IRREGULAR PRETERITES - filling it out for ourselves.
Today we filled-in: Ser/IR; Dar; Ver, and the UV group (tener/andar/estar).  We filled in only the infinitives for the rest of the irregulars.

Prepositions of place - Handout: I taught a rhyme and gestures to help students learn several of these to be able to describe where things are in their houses. 

La casa - We started a survey, just interviewing one partner today about his/her house.  We'll continue tomorrow.  Students turned in their houses and surveys before leaving.

Tarea:

We began our new lesson  - 3A: Health - symptoms and remedies; Nutrition & making suggestions to others about healthy living.

1. Pages 114-115: Listening, Reading - Learning the new vocabulary in context.
2. Writing out Actividades 1 & Act. 2 = Active Listening Comprehension.
3. Page 116:  Listening, Reading - More new vocabulary in context.
4. Writing Actividad 3 - Comprehension questions: Partner reading and writing answers.
5. Mexican Teaching Sheet - El cuerpo: Lectura =
(A) Wording with a partner: First reading about the different systems and mechanisms in body
(B) Writing up 5 comprehension questions about the reading.
(C)  One set of partners posed their questions to another pair.

Tarea:
1. New 3A Vocabulary List and Foods Reference List: Fill-in the meanings for the "Cuerpo humano" section and ADD a section for the new vocabulary on page 116 (las palabras en azul).

I was at the U of O with students on a field trip. Here's what the students did with wonderful Srta. Foltz:


1.  Students copied the meanings of the house furnishing on 2-sided pictured flashcards, and then practiced pronouncing the words.

2. Students listened to the song, Mi casa, while Srta. Foltz stamped their homework.  Students have the lyrics in their Lotería packet, with some of the words to be filled in.  The homework that was stamped was:
(A) Rough Draft of their Mi casa de sueños ( Etapas 1-3)
(B) Lotería: La Casa y los Muebles.

3. Played “Lotería” - La casa y muebles.

4. Went over the answers to Ex. D & E in the packet, The House. 
5. Block 1: Casa - crucigrama; 
Block 2: Presentation – Student Ben Webster/ his experience on the Amigos de las Américas program.

I was at the U of O Foreign Language and International Studies Day - Here is what the students did with our wonderful sub, Srta. Foltz:
1. Conjuguemos Quiz #3 = Warm-up.  More practice with Double Object Pronouns.

2. Homework correction & discussion: 

(A) Conjuguemos Quiz #2 - Double Object Pronouns 
(B) Collected their paragraphs – reaction to the first 24 minutes of a movie about La comida Latinoaméricana. 

3. Showed the remainder of the movie - there are a few minutes left – we’re at 24:00 and there are supposed to be 31.    Afterwards, had a discussion about their impressions and her own experiences in Latin America.

4.  Direct Object Pronoun Drills – Yellow cards – I card per partner.

5. Student Presentation – Ben Webster and Isabel Harger sharing about their experiences with Amigos de las Américas.

Tarea:
Write up = response to the Amigos presentation.
