Spanish II 11-26-07
- Homework stamped and credited while students did the listening activities 5, 6 & 7 in their WAVA workbooks. After each activity we debriefed the answers before going on to the next one. Activities 5 & 6 practiced the vocabulary from page 124 in context. Activity 7 practiced the preterite: I asked students to write down some of the preterite verbs they heard while listening to the speakers and looking at the drawings relating to the speakers’ conversations.
- Homework corrections: We went over the answers in the yellow packet, and in the WAVA workbook, practicing the preterite and the vocabulary.
- I introduced Demonstrative Adjectives – see page 114. These adjectives refer to how close to, or how far away from, the speaker is the item referred to. In English we say: This/These for close range items; That/Those for mid-range items, and That one over there/Those ones over there for far away items. In Spanish these are: Este, Esta/Estos, Estas (this and these); Ese,Esa/Esos,Esas (that and those); Aquel,Aquella/Aquellos,Aquellas (that/those ones over there).
- I shared a mnemonic device poem to help students remember which DEMONSTRATIVE ADJECTIVE is which:
This and These both have t’s,
That and Those, no t shows,
Far away? Begins with A.
- I explained what tomorrow’s test over the preterite will be like. Be sure you know all of the verbs on the pink VERB GRID FOR THE PRETERITE: how to CONJUGATE them and what they mean in the preterite. Also be sure you can translate simple sentences from English using these verbs with the PRETERITE TIME EXPRESSIONS we learned from the white PRETERITO packet last week.
- We practiced using a HANDOUT called, Tarea de traducción. We did the upper part of the handout – translating verbs from the preterite in English to their Spanish equivalents.
- Tarea / homework:
- Study for the PRETERITE TEST tomorrow
- Write out exercise 2B-5, page 44 in the yellow packet.
- Finish the PINK (or blue for some in period 4) translation handout.
- Have CARDS ready for REVIEW VERBS group #7: Oír – Pintar. Study these verbs to be sure you remember their meanings and how to conjugate them in the present and the preterite.
