1. Vocabulary definition game: I gave some guidelines and examples and then a "scattered vocabulary handout".   In pairs students played the vocab. guessing game, while practicing "talking around the word".

El español II - el 26 de septiembre de 2012

Introduced our NEW LESSON - 1A: School

1. Vocabulary in context: pp. 18-19 - Reading, listening and practicing new vocabulary talking about classroom objects and rules.  Activities 1 & 2 - comprehension.

2. Reviewed the vocabulary from page 40 = corrected our lists done as homework, and then partners practiced with each other using the cards made as homework.

3. Introduced "Stem-changing Verbs" - or "Cambios radicales" - see page 27. 
We got a new verb chart: filled-in meanings for all of the verbs on page 27 and did all of the Yo & Tú forms and then just one example of  an -ar, -er, and -ir verb. 
Next, partners practiced by using these verbs to ask/answer simple questions.
We watched the GramActiva video and did the "quiz" at the end.
Block 2 started Activity 14, page 27.

4. Block 3 listened to and filled in the lyrics for "Tengo hambre" song - using the Tener expressions 1/2 sheet handout.

Tarea:
1. Workbook pages 7 & 8 = vocabulary
2. Activity 14, pg. 27 = Stem-changing verbs: meaning and forms

(3) Complete the Pesadilla de Jaime cartoon with the Expressions with Tener - REMEMBER to do #8 - Use an expression with tener NOT ALREADY USED in #s 1-7 AND illustrate it.

1. Definiciones - I checked off homework while the students played the guessing game with seat partners, using the sentence-length definitions written as homework from the vocabulary on page 10.

2. Lectura - page 9 : 3 types of narrations - be sure you know the distinguishing characteristics for all three types.  + Activity 1-2, page 11: Comprehension of the reading.

3. Repaso - El preterito - see pages 13 & 14 - pay close attention to the bulleted items - don't miss the top of page 14.

4. Escudos - Grace and Erin (Alicia will do hers as soon as her laryngitis improves :>)

5. A bit more of Eloise va a la escuela.

Tarea:
1. Vocabulary practice - Act. 4 & 5 p. 12

Mini review lesson about school to warm us up to our next lesson - 1A (School, Classes & Classroom expectations.) 

1. Vocabulario, Writing and Speaking practice:
  • Vocabulary list (already partially filled-in)
  • Activity 1, pg. 14 - in 3 parts (A) Write 6 sentences about one of your classes.  (B) Write the 6 questions that you would ask someone else to get the same information about one of his/her classes.  (C) Partner oral - asking/answering your questions. 
2. Irregular YO verbs: Tener, Hacer, Poner, Traer = Page 15.  Filled-in the backside of last week's verb grid for ONLY these 4 verbs.  NOTICE: All the YO forms end in -GO.

3. Review of SPECIAL EXPRESSIONS WITH TENER = instead of "TO BE COLD" - in Spanish we "Have cold".  See HANDOUT - white verb grid with the Tener Expressions.

4. "To HAVE to do something = Tener expression: Tener + QUE + infinitive of the verb someone HAS TO DO.

We started Activities 2 & 3 in class - please finish as homework.

5. Checked off NOTEBOOKS that were ready - PLEASE HAVE DIVIDERS/TABS for the sections requested on the handout.

Eloise va a la escuela - we actually watched, and listened to, a small chunk of the movie!   Fun listening comprehension practice - Yes, the characters DO talk quickly but at this point I'm helping you out with subtitles until you "get your Spanish ears on".

2. Write 20 definitions in Spanish = SENTENCES describing the vocabulary term.

1. JUEGO – Los interrogativos.  We matched up our cards with questions and logical answers and then reviewed by saying the conversation they created.
2. Crucigrama – Went over the review crossword done as homework.
3. Checked off textbook covers for Period 3 – I’m hopeful more will be completed by Monday. Congrats to Ila Ortiz for her winning and creative book cover.
4. Took Prueba #2 – Verbs and Interrogatives.
5. Movie – The Spanish Speaking World.  Period 2 finished it – Period 3 will on Monday.
Tarea:
Purple handout – Text cover and Organized Notebook guidelines.

1.      Text – page 11, Act. 19: Reading about Enrique Iglesias and then writing answers to the comprehension questions.  We reviewed the INTERROGATIVES (Question Words) – Page 10 while going over our answers.
Then we listened to Enrique sing, “Bailamos”

2.      Communicative Activity P-2: Using the 10 sentences written as homework, we played the two games with a “clock partner”, practicing the verbs on page 9 and the Frequency Expressions on page 10.

3.      Played “Barco de Guerra” – more conjugation games – verbs page 9.

4.      Communication Activity P-3: Asking/Answering questions – Using the Interrogatives (page 10)

5.      Block 2: Chapter Review Questions; Block 3: More LOTERÍA – Verb practice.

TAREA:
1. Crucigrama – Para empezar Crossword Puzzle.
2.  Study for tomorrow’s test:
·        Meanings and conjugations (forms) of the verbs on page 9.
·        Interrogatives and Frequency Expressions on page 10.
·        Be able to complete the sentence in Spanish with a missing word.

El español II – el 19 de septiembre de 2012

1.      Poemas en diamante - Chapter project, page 13.  Students warmed-up by sharing with their seat partner, then we organized into groups of 4.  Everyone presented in their group, then selected 1 person to share their poem with the class, using the document camera.

2.      Repaso – Prueba #1: Personal, descriptive adjectives and the verb SER (to be).  I reviewed the corrections on last week’s test and coached the students in test-taking techniques.

3.      How to Study for Success in Spanish Class – I shared study techniques and tips with the students.  Handout coming home tonight for parent’s signature.

4.      Verb practice – first we practiced the meanings of the infinitives for the chapter (see page 9). We took a practice “self-test” – demonstrating one way students could practice at home.  Then we used the verbs in sentences including the TIME EXPRESSIONS from page 10.

5.      Block 2 = partner questions/answers using the verbs; Block 3 played the Lotería –AR verb game.
Tarea:
1. Write 10 sentences on the verb game handout: Communication Activity P-2.  5 sentences for Juego Uno – What you always or often do – including the frequency time expressions from page 10. 5 sentences for Juego Dos – What you sometimes or never do.
2.  Read over the Spanish Study Skills handout and have one of your parents sign it.  Turn it in by Friday.

3.      Conexiones Workbook – Irregular YO verbs – WB18.
NOTE: All of the grammar from this workbook chapter, Preliminar, is also included on Monday’s test.

4.      Distributed HOJA DE REACCIONES AL PROYECTOS DE EXPOSICION – You’ll fill this out as your listening comprehension exercise while others are presenting their “charlas”.

5.      Charlas – Alex, Amanda and Nick presented today. ¡Gracias!
Tarea:
1. Study Workbook pages WB19-20 and then do the 2 exercises (P-15 & P-16) on WB21
2. TWO-SIDED verb grid handout – indicate which type of present-tense verb it is and then conjugate it.
