Español II el 29 de septiembre de 2011

1. NEW lesson (1A) - Video Historia, pp. 20-21: First we watched the DVD of this mini-drama, then we read it aloud with a partner, wrote out answers to A. 3 - Comprendiste?(Did you understand?), and last reviewed our answers all together. We focused not only on getting the correct information but also on complete sentence structure.

2. We reviewed TENER - conjugations, Pesadilla de Jaime and Workbook pg. 6.

3. We reviewed STEM-CHANGING VERBS - See page 27: Be sure you also look at the Recuerdas? box - we're using ALL of the VERBS on this page.
Starting with TENER and then continuing on with other verbs on page 27, we reviewed the different types of stem-changer (students took notes), we watched the "goofy grammar" DVD -"Gram Activa" and began filling-in a verb chart.

4. We corrected WB7 - practicing the vocabulary from pp. 18 & 19.

5. We watched the rest of the movie Introduction to Latin America and students completed their handout.

1. Hoja extra- YET ANOTHER "Pero, Sino, Sino que" handout with explanations and an exercise. We're getting this concept!

2. Reviewed the concept of a compound verb (auxiliary verb and participle), then applied to the Present Perfect, reviewing Haber in the present and how we applied it for talking about what we have already done as work experience.

3. Introduced "El futuro" - see text pages 55-56 and take notes. We took the endings from Haber in the present and attached them to infinitives and PRESTO! = El futuro. We can now talk about what we plan on accomplishing in our futures - See how it ties in to our theme of future university studies and professions? Then we reviewed our answers to P-2, pg. 4 (homework)

4. Los artículos: Homework corrections - WB3.

5. Repaso - Los números cardinales (1, 2, 3...) y ordinales (1st, 2nd, 3rd...).

6. ESCUDOS - we continued on with our presentations.

3. Partner oral - using our homework questions: Qué has hecho de trabajo? Wrote up our partner's answers using the 3rd person in the present perfect. Period 4 received a handout of all of the verb forms with examples. Period 1 will get it tomorrow.

1. Special expressions with "Tener": Filled-in the missing words from the song, "Tengo hambre", and then sang along. Next we verified all of the expressions we wrote in on our verb grid yesterday. Last we did Activity 2, pg 15 - What did everyone HAVE to do? (Tener + que + infinitive).

2. Irregular verbs - "Yo-go": Corrected our verb grid and then practiced all the forms of these verbs in Activity 3, pg. 15.

3. Countries and Capitals - we played the You Tube countries and practiced identifying WHERE the Spanish-speaking countries are AND what is the name of their Capital Cities. Next we completed a geography handout filling in the names of the capitals and bodies of water around the given countries.

Tarea:
1. La pesadilla de Jaime - Cartoon in the Tengo hambre packet: Match up the tener expressions with the cartoons of Jaime AND THEN - chose ONE NOT ALREADY USED from the list on your verb grid - DRAW a cartoon to illustrate it, and LABEL the cartoon with the expression.

1. Reviewed the Calendario de celebraciones de México - homework from Thursday - comparing/contrasting U.S. celebrations.

2. Handout "Te gusta?" -
(A) First students answered the multiple choice questions (that include LOTS of review).
(B) Next we reviewed HOW to USE GUSTAR - many students took notes.
(C) Last students got together with one of their appointment partners and asked/answered the questions.

3. Started NEW LESSON: 1-A
(A) Reviewed the goals on page 17.
(B) Brainstormed words we knew for things having to do with school: classes, materials, things in the classroom, etc.
(C) NEW VOCABULARY SHEET: Mini Review Lesson "A ver si recuerdas" - pp. 14 & 15.
1. We practiced pronouncing and filling-in much of the vocabulary on page 14.
2. We reviewed verbs whose YO form ends with "-go": See top of page 15.
3. We started to fill-in a new verb chart for "Yo-go" verbs AND Special Expressions with TENER.

4. WE got our WORKBOOKS today (:>) I asked students to write their names and mine on the inside front page.

1. Question words - JUEGO - match up the questions & answers. Each student got a card with either a question or answer, they went through the room saying their card until they found their match. Then we reviewed each pairing as a whole class.

3. Turned-in poems due today - we'll do sharing groups tomorrow.

4. Took Test #2 for Para empezar.

Tarea:
1. Yellow verb game: Write 10 sentences in all - 5 for Juego uno and 5 for Juego dos. For Juego Uno say what you usually do - Juego Dos say what you rarely or never do. Use the appropriate frequency expressions in the lower right-hand corner.

1. QUESTIONS!
Wrote answers to questions about ourselves, then we practiced answering them aloud taking turns around the class answering them. Next we took a mini-practice quiz over the Spanish Interrogatives (see pg. 10).

2. We went over our results on the Para empezar quiz #1 from last week - now that the make-ups are completed.

3. Study Skills - using the Study Skills Handout, I coached the students on how to develop effective study habits, effective techniques and why they work well.

4. VERBOS! Students practiced conjugating a variety of verbs from page 9 by playing Verb Battleship. Want more practice? If the link doesn't work, go to www.conjuguemos.com
Then follow these steps:
Select-Indicative Mood:Simple Tenses- 2. Present tense: Regular Verbs.
Scroll down and select the verbs on the verb list from our lesson.
Select "All pronouns"

5. Reviewed the criteria for the FINAL copy of the Poema en diamante (pg. 13). SCORING GUIDE handed out. PLEASE turn this in with YOUR FINAL tomorrow.

El enojo - lectura, página 126: Working with a partner, students read the article about how to deal with anger in a positive way. Then they asked/answered follow-up questions and completed a +/- chart about positives/negatives of anger. We followed up with a whole class debrief.

Tareas: corrected WB 70 & 71 - Activities 8 & 9, practicing using the vocabulary in context and the position of certain adjectives and how it can change their meaning. See text page 129. Period 4 also reviewed A.27, pg. 129-130 from yesterday.

Los participios pasados y el presente perfecto: See pp. 132-134 + NEW PACKET: Los participios. Reviewed: Compound verbs, present and past participles. Then focused on specific uses of past participles as ADJECTIVES with Ser & Estar AND as a VERB when used with HABER. Practiced both the Present Perfect and the Pluperfect.

Proyectos: Continued with more "Mi escudo" presentations - period 1. We'll really have to catch-up in period 4 tomorrow!

Tarea:
1. Texto pg. 130 - Act.29 (adjectives that may shorten their form in certain positions)

Martes musical! Two songs today: los Interrogativos to Jingle Bell - repeat from yesterday AND Lonnie Dai Zovi's El preguntón. Students filled in the missing words as they listened and then we reviewed together.

Partner speaking: Using the questions written in Act. 15 yesterday, we did Act. 16 (pg. 10) to find out about our partner. Lots of Who, When, Where, etc. questions.

VERBOS!
1. Practice quiz over meanings of the verbs on page 9.
2. Corrected the homework verb grid
3. Corrected the written homework activity WAVA 6

Reviewed what is on Thursday's test - listed on board.

Poema: Page 13. We went over the criteria for the "put it all together" unit project.

1. NUEVO! WB paquete Lección 4 - segunda parte (4B): We used the first exercise in this new workbook packet as our warm-up practicing reading comprehension and context as well as using our new vocabulary in context.

2. JUEGO! MAS VOCABULARIO - We played a couple of guessing games using the definitions written as homework: in 4s and then as a whole class.

3. Period 1 reviewed Act. 4-27, pg 129 : period 4 will do so tomorrow.

4. Student got HOJAS DE REACCIONES - listening comprehension activity sheets to complete while listening to each other present their projects. Students filled-in the names of the students in the order they are to present.

5. Exposiciones! We began sharing our projects, 2-3 people presented to the whole class today.

1. Students signed-up for their order of presentations.
2. Organized papers into a turn-in packet. Escudo clipped to top; then the rest of the papers stapled together in the following order (top of packet first) Final typed copy; Rough draft(s); Outline.

Tarea:
1. Select 15 of the new vocabulary items and write a definition in Spanish of at least ONE SENTENCE for each one. OJO! NOT a LIST of Spanish to English.
