Spanish III 01-31-07

  • Turned in bottom of White parent letter re: level appropriate?
  • Turned in Yellow parent letter re: contact information & workbook choice
  • Reviewed questions from homework: about the class expectations.
  • Survey (encuesta) with up to 5 people: asking and answering our questions about the class. Followed up with a whole class review.
  • Started the Para Empezar lesson – Review of irregular yo verbs – JigWord #1 on the Rockwood Summit High School Site. Connect the meanings of the verbs with their Spanish equivalents. We then added the yo forms.
  • Reviewed the vocabulary at the quia site http://www.quia.com/jg/517886.html

We played a couple of the review games AND I distributed the vocabulary list.

  • Read the Fondo Cultural, page 1, about a survey of Spanish teenagers and their daily activities.
  • Read p.2 – Survey to Ana and Tomás about their typical daily activities, then completed Activity 1. Period 2 also completed Activity 2 – writing 10 sentences with the given Yo verbs about YOUR daily activities.
  • Handout: Pink “Practice Workbook” packet.
  • Distributed the WAVA workbook (Writing, Audio, and Visual Activities).

Homework/Tarea:

    1. Complete activity P-1, workbook packet.
    2. Using the vocabulary handout, make a study system that will test you on producing the Spanish (NOT just knowing what it means when you see the Spanish). Suggestions: flashcards, paper folds, etc.

  • Reviewed –ir stem-changers in the preterite

  • Reviewed “ago” in Spanish: two sentence constructions.

  • Reviewed yesterday’s work on the object pronouns and added on Double Object Pronouns, working through the packet, some orally/some written, through Exercise D.

  • Just began to talk about La Argentina and La Guerra Sucia, but the bell rang!

  1. Second draft on your vacation compare/contrast piece, taking into consideration the suggestions from your peer editor.

  • New seating chart = new room!

  • Reviewed the “fechas importantes” for 3B: Vocab. recognition test on Friday – the 5th, Spelling test on Monday, the 8th, Lesson test and Homework Packet on Wednesday, the 10th.

  • Partner conversations:

  • Folded a sheet of paper into fourths

  • Listed the following questions in each of four sections of a piece of paper: ¿Qué hiciste?, ¿Cuándo?, ¿Dónde?, Con quién(es)?, ¿Cómo te gustó?, Por qué?

  • Reviewed basics of conversation starters

  • Outlined a conversation schemata – Polite opener, Question ► Information ► Reaction ►follow-up question based on the information, etc.

  • Had mini conversations over what we had done over the break with up to four different people.

  • Turned these in for participation points.

  • Reviewed our homework, and continued on in the packet, working through exercise C as a whole class.

  • Homework: Exercise D (all) - sentence translations.

  1. Distribute the letter to the parents.

  2. Please write the following list on the overhead/board before class:

4. ¿Cuánto tiempo duró la actividad
5. ¿Con quién(es) fue?
6. ¿Dónde tomo lugar la actividad?
7. ¿Cómo resultó?
8. ¿Qué otros detalles aprendiste sobre cómo pasó las vacaciones la pareja?

  1. Have students fold a sheet of paper in fourths.  In each section have the students list the numbers 1-8 referencing the list you’ve already written out. Please tell them that I appreciate their neat work as they will be turning these in.

  1. The students ask and answer questions about the vacation: Organize a rotation system AND a signal indicating when it is time to move before you instruct them to begin.  A suggestion: Pair up two rows and have one row stay and the other partners in the adjoining row rotate forward (or backward) each time they heard the signal you give them.

  1. Have students write a compare/contrast piece about their vacations incorporating the information discovered in the oral.  Tell them to be sure to include examples from the information from the guiding questions.  I also want them to combine like information from the various people.  Also, they need to remember to include their own information.   This will also be collected, along with their oral 4-section paper, at the end of the class period.

Work through the entire part of this packet.  
  • Read each study point aloud.  

  • Highlight/underline, etc. the key idea for each study point number.  

  • Include the practices that are embedded with the study points.
2nd Part: Indirect Object Pronouns LE and LES
  • Work through this part of the packet, completing Practice B – page 212


  • Homework:

  • The permission slip from Parent/Guardian

  • Compare/contrast composition incorporating information learned during oral with your own vacation.

II. Packet – The Preterite Tense:  Irregular Verbs.
  • Practice the conjugations of the verbs listed in the packet

  • Read each study point aloud.  

  • Highlight/underline, etc. the key idea for each study point number.  

  • Write the practices that are embedded with the study points
Work through pages 50-53 (top of page until Exercises), as done above.  And YES, WILL have to know these verbs by the end of this lesson ☻
III. Lotería – Irregulares del pretérito
IV. Homework:
1. On your preterite verb grid include any irregular preterite verbs from the packet not already on it.
2. Complete Exercises A & B of Irregular Preterite Packet.  Go over the instructions with them, and do the first 2 items of each of the exercises together.
