El español II - el 30 de abril de 2013

EL PRETERITO
1. Repaso - Regular PRESENTE & Pretérito conjugations - we wrote out notes/practices - creating our own handouts.
2. LOS IRREGULARES del PRETERITO:
We used our white EL PRETERITO reference handout to learn about these many oddities of this important past tense.
  A. Ser & Ir - We observed the forms and noticed they share the same ones, READ page 140 in our Text Book, and continued making our own handout - this is on the back of the one we started at the beginning of class.
  B. Dar & Ver - Neither have accents and DAR "thinks" it is an "-er/ir verb"!
  C. "Grouped Irregulars" - These completely change the root of the verb by using one of these four ways:
    1. UV  2. 3. 4. J
  D. Present-tense Stem-changers in the Preterite: ONLY those ending with -IR have a change and then ONLY in 3rd person.
  E. "Meaning Changers" from the present to the preterite (bottom of the last page).

LA CASA - Partner Review:  Partners checked each others' rough drafts to make sure the (1) Work had all of the information required and (B) the words were spelled correctly. 

TAREA:
1. Make your FINAL COPY of your Mi casa de sueños project.
2. Practice for your ORAL tomorrow: describing your INTERIOR and be ready to talk about its EXTERIOR, too.

I. HABLAR!
 Precaliento - A. 2-28 (Yo no viviría sin...) choose 3 of these topics and write up why you couldn't live without them.
Rotating Partner ORAL: Asking and Answering questions about all of the topics in Act. 28, practicing "open-ended" questions to draw out more information from your partner.

II. Repaso Tareas: Practicing the subjuctive conjugations and uses.

III. Continuamos con el SUBJUNTIVO - el INDICATIVO - el INFINITIVO

Tarea:
1. WB 47: write the subjunctive, indicative or infinitivo of the verb, as needed, and be able to explain WHY it is used in that context.
2. WB48-49 (A. 15 & 16) - Read the LECTURA and then complete the two activities that follow.

Mi casa de sueños - proyecto para el español II



Mi casa de sueños - Fecha límite: el 1 de mayo  = copia final y oral                                              

El plan de mi casa especial:
Etapa 1                USING A PENCIL, draw a “blue print” type plan of your dream house, 
                            using the   vocabulary in the vocabulary input packet The House,            
                            the extra handout:
                              3A-A ver  si recuerdas la casa y el apartamento y la mueblería básica,
                              and the other handouts we’ve use to practice the house and its furnishing.
                             
                              Include BOTH rooms AND furnishings. Take pride in doing it well.
                               Must include (at least) the following 5 rooms:
                                          One bedroom, kitchen, living room, dining room and bathroom. 
                             Each room must include (a minimum) of 6 furnishings/decorations. 
                                     USE a good VARIETY of items:
                                     Please do NOT REPEAT labeling the same items in most/every room.

Etapa 2                Label ALL items NEATLY in SPANISH.
Etapa 3                Go over all of your work and DOUBLE CHECK for CORRECT SPELLING.
  NOTE: Etapas 1-3 = Copia borredor (rough draft)

Etapa 4                Color-in your visual – taking care to create a quality product. 
Etapa 5                Go over your pencil label words with pen for the Copia final (FINAL DRAFT).

Etapa 6                Practice describing your house aloud in Spanish - el oral = el 1ero de mayo
                              Be ready to talk about the INTERIOR (your blue print project)
                             AND the EXTERIOR: What it looks like (¿Cómo es?); 
                            What it has around it – the yard    (¿Qué hay por afuera?) and 
                            Where it is located (¿Dónde está?)

I was at the U of O field trip today - so here are the plans I left for your sub:
1. Handout: 2-sided pictured flashcards, and then lead then in practicing saying the words.  
2. Mi casa – song and fill-in lyrics listening activity. 
3. LOTERIA: casa y muebles vocabulary game (rooms and furnishing for the home).  
4. Go over the homework – The House packet – exercises B & C.
5. Continue on with the packet – Ex. D & E.
6. Crossword from their 3A – A ver si recuerdas Packet – re: pp. 126-127 in the textbook.
7. Optional - additional activity:  The fill-in crossword – you made 9 extra copies of for prep.

Tarea: Complete THE HOUSE packet Ex. D & E, if you didn’t get it done in class.

I was at the U of O with the students at Foreign Language - International Studies Day.  Here is an outline of the plans I left for your sub:
I. Vocabulary/Communication Practice:
Read the article on page 59 aloud with a seat partner –
WRITE out answers to the questions in Act. 2-21, pg. 61 and also write out the cognates for Act. 2-22. Write out answers for the questions in Act. 2-23

II. Homework Review (10 mins)
1   Workbook pg. 46, Act. 2-10
2    Text pp. 61 & 62, Act. 2-24 & 2-25

III.  Text Type Analysis (20-25 mins): Students change partners -  “Baile flamenco” partner
1  Hand out:“El manual de estilos de texto” – Students read the attached article using the guide to notice the elements of an expository text.
     Find these elements in the EL CENTINELA article from pg 59 in the text book?
3     Handout - article, “Limpie su casa naturalmente” – partners read this aloud and then analyze it according to the text type guide in “el manual de estilos de texto” – marking the article to indicate their analysis.

IV. MOVIE!  This class has about 20-25 minutes more to finish The Incredibles! Set-up: Spanish Language with Spanish Subtitles.  

Tarea:  Write out sentences using 20 of the vocabulary words, and then translate them to English.  This doesn’t have to be 20 separate sentences if they can combine words in a meaningful way in the same sentence.  Ask them to UNDERLINE and NUMBER their vocabulary words in the Spanish sentences.

3. The House / La casa - new packet: vocabulary practice.  We'll be doing a project with this next week.  I showed a couple of examples of previous students' work to get everyone thinking about what they might like to do.

2. ORAL - Grupos de cuatro: Got trained on how to use recorders & the procedure on how to do orals.  THEN we did the Hacia el porvenir orals, recording them.

3. Get a GOOD NIGHT'S SLEEP tonight, EAT BREAKFAST in the morning and do well on your SAT's.

Tarea:
1. Mini-project - Ir de compras a El Corte Inglés (handout) - Buy AS MUCH CLOTHING (A Variety of Clothing Articles) as you can with the 500 Euros you have to spend.  Draw or cut and paste images of what you bought in the box on the left side & WRITE  a SENTENCE for EACH ITEM in the box on the right side.  Be sure to included ALL THE ELEMENTS at the TOP OF THE BOX.

1. Vamos a conversar - pg. 54: Choose 3 of the listed ecological problems and explain why they are a problem and propose possible solutions.

3. Juego del porvenir (fortune teller game) - Write out the words in Spanish for the colors; Use 8 Numbers in the 100's,  Write 8 fortunes - each with 3 sentences; 3 different verbs in the future, and a cause/effect story line.  Don't know how to make one?  Watch this Origami You tube or go to this site for a pattern.
