1. Warm-up/Review: 16 items/sentences practicing español I from packet lessons Para empezar - 2A. While students wrote these I collected signed-parent letters and checked off homework, then we went over the answers together.

2. Homework corrections: Pared de palabras - BIG vocabulary review filling in our class "Pared de palabras" with items students had prepared as homework.

3. Hora 1era: Students asked one another the class procedure/policy quiz questions prepared as homework.
Hora 2nda: I answered the questions from students on yesterday's information handout and then explained the "classroom systems" for Sign-in (tardies)/Sign-out; Homework Center; School Information Center; How to hand-in make-up/late work, etc.

Tarea:
1. Vocabulary List PE #1 : Carefully write the Spanish using your review packet, the dictionary in the back of your book, or the list here. Select "see list of terms" under the game options - or just play the flashcard game and fill in your list as you go!
2. Make flashcards for P.E. Vocabulary #1 items #1-24: English on one side/Spanish on the other.

1. Precaliento: While students wrote out answers to some basic getting to know you questions I collected the parent-signed letters and checked off their other homework.

2. REPASO - Reviewing (A) positive personality traits; (B) favorite days/celebrations; (C) favorite places & (D) favorite foods using a Power Point and photo posters. We'll use these concepts as part of our name plate decorations as homework tonight, and then as a conversation starter tomorrow in class.

3. Alphabet review - and then practiced dictating our classroom names to one another, then as a whole class.

4. Homework review: Categorías (some the same as in earlier review)
Students shared the words they sorted into the categories of la escuela, Las actividades, los días especiales, La familia y La comida.

5. I went over the "classroom systems": Sign-in/Sign-out; Homework center; School Info Center; where to turn-in make-up/late work, etc.

Tarea:
1. Vocabulary List P.E. #1: Take care to accurately write the Spanish for the English items.
2. Make your name plate for class: Latino name on one side with drawings/visuals in each corner representing the 4 areas in the REPASO listed above. Your "Hallway name" - First & Last on the reverse.

El presente progresivo:
I shared a children's book, El chigarí, and students quickly observed how to form this really easy verb form. Next I gave them some notes about regular and irregular forms.
Last we we confirmed what we had observed by (1) Reading the grammar box on the top of page 171 and then (2) Watching the Gram Activa, and then participating in its little "Quiz".

We corrected the homework - WB63 & 64 & Act. 3, pg. 161

FINAL EXAM REVIEW - everyone now has the updated packet of lesson-by-lesson review sheets. Continue with your studying on those. Already did Chapter 1A & 1B? (see last Friday's blog for practice links).

Panel discussion: El norte - Examen oral final

1. Students presented their theses in response the the 7 analysis questions based on our viewing of the movie El norte.
Due to the size of the class, period 4 had an 8th question - identifying each of the main characters, explaining how they are related and how each one moves the plot along. Period 1 used this as a warm-up activity.

2. Each question was represented by a panel of 3-4 students who also posed questions to the audience.

3. Each student also needed to respond as an audience member to demonstrate their ability to pose and respond to questions.

I. We organized/confirmed who would do what for our "Día de comida" tomorrow.

II. Orales de pareja= We used most of the class period doing these partner orals.
We had 8 rounds of students alternating asking questions then the next round asking questions.

All of the students changed position every round - We used concentric circles (inner/outer).

The interviewer also did peer assessment on the partner answering the questions.

2. El pretérito regular

Regular Preterite flashcards : students got two handouts of cards for (1) Subject pronouns (2) Verb stems (3) Verb endings. They cut these apart and then organized them into like categories.
Mini-sentence builder activity: I wrote sentences in English using the elements from the flashcards. Students used their cards to put together the Spanish equivalent.
Pretérito - Tarea #1: We went over the answers to the homework handout.

3. Demonstrative Adjectives

Reviewed our Rima to help us remember the forms: "This and these both have Ts, That and Those no T shows, Far away? Begins with A, I don't know - ends with O".
New packet: Demonstrative Adjectives. We did the first two pages practicing, Este/a/os/as; Ese/a/os/as; Aquel/Aquella/os/as.

Tarea:

1. Lotería - Regular -er/-ir Preterite verbs. Fill-in this bingo-like game using answers both in Spanish and English.

1. Warm-up: Vocabulary picture flashcards - working with a partner and their vocabulary lists, students identified which vocabulary items were portrayed in the drawings.

2. Video Historia - pp. 104-105: Students watched the video, read along in their books. This incorporates the vocabulary and structures of the lesson in a meaningful context.
Then we did Actividad 3, pg. 105 = Comprehension questions.

3. Demonstrative Adjectives = This blouse, that jacket, those pants over there. See page 114.
I introduced these terms using examples around the classroom. Next we read the grammar box on page 114 and then followed with the Gram Activa video. Last students got a blue 2-page handout with examples and drawing flash cards.

4. El pretérito
(a).We took the preterite time expressions quiz, and then corrected it.
(b) Reviewed the conjugations of the preterite, correcting our verb grid homework.
(c) Partner questions/answer practice using the Tú form in questions/answering in the Yo.
