1. HOW to STUDY for SUCCESS! - We reviewed our "How to Study" handout and I taught an efficient way to drill new vocabulary to learn it well and accurately. We practiced using the vocabulary from page 40 and a vocabulary list handout from today.

2. WAVA packet, Listening Activities 7 & 8 (plus 9 - block 1).

3. Affirmative/Negative words - see page 31 in your text and get the HANDOUTS: (1) Explanation Sheet and (2) Flashcard masters. We also watched the Gram Activa and did the activity "quiz".

4. Repaso de tareas: homework corrections - Workbook pages 10 & 11 & Verb grid for stem-changers in -ir verbs

5. Practice Packet: Stem-changing Verbs. Went over the study points on the first few pages.

Tarea:

Tarea:

1. Verb Grid: Copy the O-UE verbs from your handout onto your verb grid and then fill-in their forms. REMEMBER to look on the LOTERIA game on the reverse of your handout for their forms. O-UE VERBS = Almorzar, Dormir, Poder, Costar (ONLY 3rd person forms), Jugar(u-ue), Volver, Devolver, Recordar.

1. Reviewed "Ir" to go and it's two uses:
(a) to go to a place (Ir + a + lugar)
(B) to be going to do something (Ir + a + infinitivo)

2. Practice sentences (Handout) - Using Ir and the special expressions with Tener.

3. Homework corrections: reviewing the vocabulary & special expressions with Tener/La pessadilla de Jaime.

4. We made Partner Appointments - if you were absent get your appointments list from la Maestra (me).

5. Geography review (handout) - working with a partner students practiced the locations of important places in the Spanish-speaking world - Countries, Capitals, Oceans & Seas.

Tarea:
1. Workbook pages 5 & 6. (period 1 got their workbooks today!)
2. Lotería: La escuela. Use the vocabulary on the back to help you fill-in the words with both their Spanish and English meanings.

2. Made partner appointments for the quarter - took lots of time with such a big class but now we're set for the quarter.

3. Oral - working with one of our new partners we asked questions to elicit the information written in our sentences as homework last night - based on Act. 3, pg. 16. Reviewed regular preterite tense: got HANDOUT - EL PRETERITO = basic reference information about forming and using this important past tense.

4. Introduced Capítulo 1 (A) - A primera vista 1 (pp. 22-23) HANDOUT: New vocabulary with quiz game site. This is the list for the whole chapter (1A & 1B) - see page 58 in your text book.

Mini-lesson leading to 1A: A ver si recuerdas pp. 14 & 15:
School courses, classroom materials & objects, describing classes and school schedules.

1. Pre-test: we checked to see what you might have remembered from Spanish I

2. Activity 1, pg. 14 - First we wrote about a couple of classes and then we shared aloud with a partner about them.

3. Irregular verbs in yo = "Yo-go" verbs; see page 15 + GRID handout.

4. Tener - one of the "yo-go" had LOTS of special expressions - See page 15 & verb grid handout.
a. Tengo Hambre - we filled-in the missing words from a song we listened to, practicing the tener expressions.
b. We added in some more "tener expressions" onto our grids.

5. Proyectos - We presented our proyectos in small groups, and then handed them in.

Tarea:
1. Fill-in the Spanish on your vocabulary handout from page 14 in the text book - your pretest today will also be helpful.
2. Complete the cartoon in your Tener expressions packet - La pessadilla de Jaime. Be sure you do item #8, too -Using aTener expression not already uses.

1. Repaso - ir afuera:
Introduced the review mini-lesson leading into our new chapter: A ver si recuerdas.
a. We played Categorías - brainstorming where we could go; what we would do there; what the weather might be like and what animals/insects we could see.
b. Text book page 16 - comparing our lists with the book's graphic organizer.
c. Vocabulary list
d. Partner conversations, Activity 1 - putting it all together talking about a couple of places we like to go.

2. Review of the preterite -
a. We observed the regular preterite forms in the birthday song we sang to a classmate today.
b. Text book page 17 - reviewed the conjugation charts.
c. Activity 2 - more written practice
d. Verb grid - distributed, some students got a start on it.

Tarea:
1. Complete the parts of the verb grid marked pg. 17 & pg. 19 - including the top of the second page.
2. Write out Activity 3, pg 17 with THESE CHANGES: Write 7 sentences = One per "lugar" - use a different lugar for each sentence. You may use the ones on page 16 and/or the ones from our list from class today. For EACH place USE an Actividad & Weather descriptor in the PRETERITE and say what animales/insectos you SAW there.

1. Introduced the Para Empezar Project: Así soy yo!
See page 13 in the text book.
Content requirements
are listed in the "Pre-write" at the top of the page. See the picture of the an example at the bottom of the page.
I gave out a handout with the other "quality" requirements: Your work demonstrates your Pride in Product. (1) Includes ALL content requirement elements. (2) Every line includes verbs. (3) Your use of Spanish is accurate - especially for - VERBS: match the subject/who does the action and ADJECTIVES: endings match people described in gender & number. (4) Your visual is tasteful and appropriate for school. (5) Visual is attractive, neat and images support your script. (6) You're well rehearsed and ready to perform (7) Your poem is on a standard sized sheet of paper (8 1/2 " X 11").

2. Review prior to Para Empezar Exam:

(A) Reviewed nationality adjectives - debriefing the partner oral, De dónde es María. We used this to review the importance of matching the adjective to the gender & number of the noun described.
(B) Reviewed INTERROGATIVES - JUEGO! - Each student received a card with either a question or an answer and they had to find their match. Then we went through all of them in order to learn all sorts of things about José and his friends.

3. Took the Para Empezar Lesson Exam - this is the Spanish 1 review unit.

4. Geography - map "test" game: we went to this web site, selected South American Countries & Capitals and played it as a class on the Smart Board.
ANUNCIO - Spanish-speaking World Countries & Capital Cities Map Test = a week from today; Friday, February 24.

1. Lectura - pg. 11 Enrique Iglesias: Reading and answering Comprehension questions about this singer (Actividad 19). Then we listened to one of the songs mentioned in the reading, Bailamos.

2. Homework review: Corrections on the crucigrama (crossword) - in the review packet and the translation sentences. Lots of practice with the vocabulary and grammar from the lesson.

3. Listening comprehension: WAVA packet, Act. 3.

4. Verb conjugation practice game - Barco de guerra: Battleship-style game played with a partner.

Tarea:
I handed out a Study guide for tomorrow's lesson test (handout).
Here's a more brief outline.
A. Descriptive & nationality adjectives and how to use them: 2-3 & 6-7.
B. Descriptions using ser + adjectives: pp. 2-5.
C. Regular -ar, -er, -ir verbs: pp. 8-9
6. Question words, activities, seasons: pp. 10-12

3. Test includes READING Comprehension & Both short written answers and one extended paragraph on our topics: Mis actividades extracurriculares; Mi rutina diaria y los quehaceres; Los días especiales.

1. ¡Feliz día del amor y de la amistad! - I gave the kids Conversation Hearts in Spanish and we had fun figuring out what they said, since they were in "texting-Spanish". LOL!

2. Months and Seasons of the Year: Reviewed these with flashcard pictures and a poem/song.

3. Los interrogativos - see page 10. We practiced these question words with a "pre-test", as song and an activity in the book: Activity 15.

4. Los verbos - We corrected our verb grids and practiced forms by asking/answering questions using only the verbs: ¿Tú?→ Yo.

5. Corrected homework - Workbook pg.4 (verbs) and Wb 3 - Nationality Adjectives.

6. Reviewed the GOALS of the lesson, reminded of TEST on FRIDAY.

Tarea:

1. Decorate your Name Plate - Your REAL name on one side (undecorated) and a Latino name for class on the other (decorated). Need a name? Check out my separate post.
