  • Took verb quiz #6- Capítulo 3, primera parte.
  • Corrected and reviewed the quiz.
  • Practiced for the Oregon Oral tomorrow: Practiced “expounding” and posing questions based on a prompt from the various topics in the Oregon Second Language Benchmarks.
  • Due to the Oregon Oral tomorrow, we’ve moved our last verb quiz to Wednesday, along with our “Las Mañanitas” written and performance test.
  • ¿Tarea? STUDY

  • We reviewed Las cajas de carton:
    1. Took turns reading it aloud.
    2. Practiced the vocabulary and grammar points
    3. Answered/corrected the ¿Qué pasó? Comprehension questions done as homework over the weekend.
  • Practiced the Oregon Oral format: Using situation cards based on Oregon Second Language Benchmark topics, we practiced “expounding” and posing questions on various topics.
  • Reviewed the vocabulary in Chapter 5: page 146.
  • Homework: Using the vocabulary from pg.146, write out Activities 5-1, pg.147 & 5-3, pg.148

  • Took the verb conjugation quiz over the verbs from Capítulo 2.
  • Corrected the test and debriefed the sentences and verb forms.
  • Period 4 did the reading and listening exercises for pages 159-161.
  • Both period 2 & 4 read the “Friendship Quiz” aloud while working with a partner. They calculated their scores and discussed their results.
  • I reviewed how the subjunctive works and we added in its use with expressions of emotion. See page 168.
  • Tarea:
    1. Activity 12, page 168. Write out the letter and complete with the subjunctive form of the verb required. Also, underline the independent (main) clause as well as the subjunctive verb following it.
    2. Verb quiz: Chapter 3- first column.

  • Reviewed Double Object Pronouns, singing “El cumpleaños de Timoteo”
  • Practiced “Las mañanitas” getting ready for our written and performance test on this next Thursday.
  • Students read the quotations of various Hispanic celebrities on page 111 and through partner discussions, matched them up to the descriptors listed in Act. 4-1, page 113.
  • Debriefed their discussions and the meanings of the descriptors.
  • Using the paragraphs written as homework last night, we played, ¿Quién es? Trying to identify which celebrity was being described incorporating as much of the vocabulary on page 112 as possible.
  • Divided into groups of threes, and took turns reading aloud the short story, Cajas de Cartón.
  • Homework: Complete the ¿Qué pasó? Comprehension questions for both sections of the short story.

  • Period 2 – we ate up the leftovers from Spanish IV’s breakfast for seniors.
  • Period 4 – we honored “Angela”, our senior whose last day was today, AND “Diego” whose birthday was today, too.
  • We practiced “Las mañanitas”, and a few students checked out a copy of the CD to practice it at home. Test: written and oral is next Wednesday (6/13).
  • Reviewed what will be tested next week and when. See the list on the board.
  • We reviewed the vocabulary from Unit 4, A ver si recuerdas, using the sites given on yesterday’s Blog,
  • Period 2 also started the regular part of the lesson 4-A, pages 160-161, using the reading and listening activities from the textbook.
  • We reviewed using Reflexive verbs and practiced them using 2 of Barbara Kuczun Nelson’s interactive activities from her website at Colby College

http://www.colby.edu/~bknelson/exercises/index.html - one is a song where you fill-in the blanks while you’re listening to fragments of it; the other is an activity where you select the answer that is the most logical reaction to the original statement.

  • We reviewed the meanings of the verbs from Chapter 2, our verb quiz tomorrow, using a list a I created on http://www.wordchamp.com
  • We then practiced conjugations from just one of the verbs in several tenses.

  • Felicitamos a los seniors. We celebrated them, then sent them off the “suffer” their final exams.
  • Reviewed what will be tested next week and when – see list on board.
  • We reviewed object pronouns, then reviewed the verbs that need indirect object pronouns.
  • We practiced more of these verbs and I.O. pronouns by completing exercise 3-32, page 101.
  • We went to Barbara Kuczun Nelson’s site at Colby College, and used her interactive activity for the verbs “like gustar” http://www.colby.edu/~bknelson/exercises/index.html
  • We reviewed the differenced between “Queder”, “Quedarse” and “Quedar + adj.”, on page 89.
  • We moved onto Chapter 4-part 1, page 112: reviewing how to describe people’s personalities, traits and qualities.
  • Homework:
    1. Exercise 3-18, page 90 (Quedar…)
    2. Review vocabulary page 112, and use as much as you can to write a paragraph describing a celebrity without including the person’s name. We’ll use this tomorrow for a game of “¿Quién es?”

  • Took verb quiz Capítulo 1, parte 2
  • Corrected the quiz and reviewed the preterite: its regular and irregular forms as well as the time expressions often used with the preterite.
  • Started Unit 4: reviewed terms we use to describe our relationships with others.
  • Practiced the review vocabulary with the following Web sites http://www.quia.com/jg/368746.html and http://www.quia.com/jg/368757.html
  • Students took notes while we reviewed Reflexive Verbs: what they are, how and when they are used (see page 157).
  • Practiced “Las mañanitas” preparing for our exam on this next Wednesday, June 13, 2007
  • Tarea: Add the verbs from Capítulo 4 to your list of verbs by chapters. Be sure to include those found on pages 154, 156, 157 and 196.

  • Discussed El norte – while correcting the homework.
  • Shared some of my fabric collection and wedding beads from Guatemala.
  • Reviewed the article about Myrka Delanos’ trip to Honduras for Save the Children after hurricane Mitch.
  • Reviewed the uses of Direct object and their pronouns, the “A personal” and indirect objects and their pronouns.
  • Corrected the homework exercise using Indirect pronouns, Direct ones or the “a personal”.
  • Tarea: Review the verbs like “gustar”, pp. 100-101

  • Quiz practice of verbs.
  • Took Verb quiz: Capítulo Uno= #1
  • Corrected quiz while reviewing verbs.
  • Period 2 – WAVA activity 5.
  • Period 4 – Practiced the subjunctive: making recommendations and reviewed the vocabulary, page 150.
  • Homework/Tarea: STUDY for 3B test tomorrow.
    1. All of the vocabulary on page 150: Some in a “spelling test” – I give the English, you correctly spell the Spanish; and some “know it in context” during the listening and reading comprehension sections.
    2. All of the Subjunctive we’ve studied: Regular, irregular, stem-changers for –ar and –er verbs AND stem-changers for –ir verbs.

  • Pruebita #2 – second half of the verbs from Para Empezar.
  • Correction, and review, of verb quiz.
  • Reviewed how the remaining chapter verb lists will be divided into the upcoming verb tests: Quiz #3 (6/4) – Unit 1= 1st column, Quiz #4 (6/6) – Unit 1=2nd column, Quiz #5 (6/8) – Unit 2, Quiz #6 (6/11) Unit 3= 1st column, Quiz #7 (6/12) Unit 3=2nd column.
  • Reviewed the subjunctive and –ir stem-changing verbs while correcting the homework (Act. 38, page 139).
  • Period 2 – Earned their 30 minutes of juegos en Español!
  • Period 4 – Listening exercise, WAVA Actividad 5. Listened to explanations and wrote suggestions.
